Ring in the New Year at The District Docklands on Wednesday 31 December, surrounded by more than 20 entertainment venues, 40 dining options, and plenty of shopping. We’ve got everything you need to know including road closures, parking, public transport, and hotel guest guidance so you can plan a smooth night out.

See in the New Year at Docklands with the family-friendly Celebration Zone close to The District. Enjoy one of Melbourne’s best inner-city vantage points for the fireworks, plus roving performances, interactive activations, and great food.

GETTING TO THE DISTRICT
By Car
We're located just off the Tullamarine Fwy with easy access from Footscray Road. Roads will be closed around The District from 8pm until 2am. See map below for more details. Some roads around The District are open longer than other areas in the CBD.
By Tram
Located in the Free Tram Zone on the 86 or 70 trams from Bourke and Flinders Street, or 35 City Circle for a scenic loop through Docklands. The 86 and 30 terminate at LaTrobe & Spencer Street.
By Bike
Coming from the North and West via the Green Serpent Bridge is easy now. Bike parking is available around The District Docklands.
By Bus
Catch Metropolitan buses 220, 232, 235, or 237, which operate routes that go to The District Docklands.
ROAD CLOSURES
You will be able to access The District’s $18 max price all day parking* up until approximately 8pm at which point roads will be closed around The District approximately 8pm until 2am. If you are already parked after 8pm you will be able to exit The District via Pearl River Road, Waterfront Way, Docklands Drive and Ltl Docklands Drive.

Can I book a car park space?
Sorry, we don’t have an online booking system for our car park so we suggest arrive early to secure a space. In previous years our car park hits capacity before the fireworks.
What if the weather forecasts rain?
New Year’s Eve will go ahead rain, hail or shine, so make sure you bring an umbrella if required. The District is undercover and almost all our unique experiences are indoor. In the event of severe weather or other incidents, the City of Melbourne advises of program changes or event delay or cancellation may occur.
The District is pet friendly, can I bring my dog?
Correct, The District is pet friendly, however New Year’s Eve in the city can be noisy and overwhelming for our furry friends, we recommend you leave your pets at home. Assistive animals and Guide Dogs are always welcome.
How do I get to the waterfront from The District?
It’s just a short 2 minute walk across the road. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time as it will be very crowded.
Can I watch the fireworks from the Melbourne Star?
The Melbourne Star Observation Wheel returns in 2026 and right now is undergoing major works to have it ready for next year.
