The 2023/24 Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League (AWIHL) is gearing up for an exciting finish with the finals series to be played at O’Brien Icehouse in District Docklands, Melbourne on Saturday March 9 and Sunday March 10.

Teams from Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth, featuring Australia’s best female ice hockey players, will take to the ice in the semi-finals on Saturday March 9 to qualify for the Grand Final game on Sunday March 10.

Perth Inferno, who missed last year’s finals, finished the season on top of the ladder and will be out to continue their impressive form during the finals to complete the turnaround from third to first in one year.

Melbourne Ice have continued their consistent form, finishing third on the ladder after finishing top of the ladder last season. They will be keen to go one better this year after losing the 2023 Grand Final to Sydney Sirens.

No matter who plays off in the Grand Final, for the first time in three years a new team will be lifting the Joan McKowen Memorial Trophy after reigning dual champions, the Sydney Sirens missed out on qualifying for finals.

To reach the Grand Final and playoff for the Gold Medal, Perth Inferno must win their semi-final against the 4th placed Brisbane Lightning on Saturday March 9 puck drop at 2 pm.

For the chance to go one better than last season, the Melbourne Ice will first need to win their semi-final against the second-placed Adelaide Rush on Saturday March 9, puck drop at 5 pm to reach the Grand Final on Sunday.

Sunday’s action will commence at 2:00 pm with the play-off for the Bronze Medal between the two losing teams from Saturday’s matches. The Grand Final, for the Gold Medal and the Joan McKowen Memorial Trophy, will commence at 5:00 pm between the winners of Saturday’s semi-final matches.
