The Nanny Exhibit
An immersive exhibit bringing the fashion and flare of iconic ‘90s sitcom “The Nanny” is coming to Melbourne/Naarm next year in an Australian first, with tickets for the event on sale from today.
The exhibit, coming in February 2025, will focus on the signature, fashion-forward looks of the titular character (played by Fran Drescher). Featuring over 100 of Fran Fine’s original designer costumes (sourced from private collectors and directly from Sony’s Hollywood archive), these looks marked a pivotal moment in fashion history and have left a lasting impact on the fashion scene to this day.
Visitors will be immersed in a nostalgic reconstruction of the famous sets, complete with fashion installations of costumes worn by Fran, designed by the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and Christian Dior, props used by the entire cast, classic show memorabilia and rarities from die-hard fans and private collectors all over the world.
The costumes, which were originally donated to thrift shops at the end of the show’s run, have been painstakingly assembled over the past decade by “The Nanny” super-fans from across the globe.
Curator of The Nanny Exhibit, Chris Brempel assembled the collection from Germany to the US and further to amass as many of the sought-after items as possible.
“It is an exciting opportunity for us to honour the show and its seminal costume design. We want to bring back the happiness and joy this show, and the costumes have brought to people around the world”, says Brempel.
Across its six-season run in the ‘90s “The Nanny” generated a large fan base and maintains its popularity to this day, with over 2 million Australians viewing the show on free-to-air television over the last 12 months (not including those who stream via Samsung TV Plus, Stan, Binge & Foxtel).
A preview of The Nanny Exhibit launched in France in 2022 to huge success, with 23,000 visitors in its opening week. Following this success, local touring and brand experience group Pomerium has partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment to bring the exhibit to Melbourne.
Director of Pomerium and Executive Producer of The Nanny Exhibit, Adrian says visitors can expect an experience with all the boldness, colour, humour and energy of the show itself.
“The Nanny Exhibit lets fans step into the fabulously over-the-top world of Fran Fine, from her iconic outfits to the unforgettable one-liners, this exhibit celebrates everything we love about the show,” said Adrian.
“There’s a universal appeal and nostalgia to the show that brings people together, whether it’s old fans revisiting their favourite scenes or younger generations experiencing the magic for the first time – this exhibit is a celebration of that joy and of this TV gem that still makes us laugh today.”
“We’re beyond excited to open The Nanny Exhibit and let fans step back into the fabulously over-the-top world of Fran Fine! From her iconic outfits to the unforgettable one-liners, this exhibit celebrates everything we love about the show.”
